Derek Hough Is Joining J. Lo's "World of Dance" Show

Look at that smize! (ABC)

Is Derek Hough the World’s Busiest Man? It’s entirely possible. From cha-cha-ing across the “Dancing with the Stars” floor to lighting up the small screen in Hairspray Live! to taking on Gene Kelly’s iconic role in the Broadway revival of Singin’ in the Rain, Hough is never not moving. Now it’s been announced that he’ll be trading one TV gig for another, bowing out of “DWTS” to join Jennifer Lopez’s new show on NBC, “World of Dance.” (Because when J. Lo calls, YOU ANSWER.)

Hough will be gracing the judges’ table on “WOD,” a competitive series featuring all kinds of dance styles and culminating in a one million—that’s right, MILLION—dollar prize. You can read more about the show here, but the TL;DR take is that it’s very, very legit. And with the addition of Hough’s sure-to-be-on-point critiques, it’s going to be even more so.

No premiere date has been set for “WOD” just yet. While we’re waiting on that (and on that Singin’ in the Rain revival, which has been postponed, wahh), you can see Hough’s stuff on display when he plays Corny Collins in Hairspray Live! next Wednesday, December 7 on NBC. Read our interview with Hough in the December issue to find out how he’s been prepping for the musical’s non-stop action.
