"DWTS" Finale Recap: The Mirrorball Trophy Goes to…

November 19, 2018

Of all the “Dancing with the Stars” finales, we’re sure this one is bound to go down as one of the most surprising ones yet. And though only one couple was awarded the Mirrorball, we think everyone performed like champions last night! Improvement from all four stars was apparent. What was even better? The celebs were really enjoying themselves up there.

Milo Manheim & Witney Carson

Milo Manheim and Witney Carson have been on fire this whole season. The judges have said that this couple was the one to beat, and last night was no different. Their contemporary number to “Ain’t No Sunshine” was one of the most moving dances of the season. The innovative choreography incorporating umbrellas and a giant pool of water and their captivating stage presence made it impossible to even blink, for fear of missing a moment of this sensational performance.

Alexis Ren & Alan Bersten

These two lovebirds performed their freestyle to a live performance by Avril Lavigne. Though the choreography combined with the music was compelling, Ren’s performance wasn’t as clean as we’re used to seeing. Her execution of the trick steps seemed strained and she just wasn’t as fluid as we’ve come to expect. But there were moments that reminded us why these two landed in the semi-finals. Overall, they’ve had solid performances and have demonstrated how a great partnership can take dancing to a whole new level.

Evanna Lynch & Keo Motsepe

Evanna Lynch and Keo Motsepe really shone in their reprised tango to Rihanna’s “Disturbia.” The two attacked the steps and executed the whole routine with a confidence that we would’ve loved to have seen throughout the whole season. The judges said that Lynch had improved the most out of all the other contestants and we couldn’t agree more. This “Harry Potter” star no longer needs a wand to make magic—she makes magic on the dance floor.

Bobby Bones & Sharna Burgess

Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess have been the underdogs throughout their run on “DWTS.” While Bones has the charisma of a performer, technique and skill have been lacking in many of his dances. That being said, Bones gave the performance of his life last night during this freestyle routine. Dancing to Panic! At the Disco’s cover of “The Greatest Show” from The Greatest Showman, Bones blew away not only the audience but the judges as well. The flossing move he added to the end of the routine may have helped too, but Bones certainly ended his journey on “DWTS” with a bang—not to mention his first and only perfect score!

But there can only be one winner and that’s…

Bobby Bones and Sharna Burgess.

Despite joking about how “clueless” he was when he first appeared on “DWTS” and how “clueless” he still is, Bones has become the champion of “DWTS” Season 27. Though many are surprised by the outcome, we like to think this proves that talent and skill aren’t the only things at play when it comes to great dancing. Hard work and a dash of charisma go a long way in moving an audience. So we take our hat off to Bones because as the judges said, Bones is “the people’s champion!” Well done.
