"DWTS" Week 10: The Finale!

May 24, 2016

It’s hard to believe yet another season of “Dancing with the Stars” has come to an end! This season, though, is definitely one to remember: It’ll go down as perhaps the closest competition in the show’s history, with finalists Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd, Ginger Zee and Valentin Chmerkovskiy, and Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas seriously bringing it during the finale week’s two-show extravaganza. You guys, we were so torn!

Alas, only one pair can earn the famed Mirrorball Trophy. And that honor went to…

…Nyle DiMarco and Peta Murgatroyd!

It’s a well-deserved win. DiMarco has been a fan favorite since day one. His ability to hear the music without actually hearing the music is mind-blowing—and makes for insanely beautiful and emotional performances.

Here are our top highlights from the two nights of finale festivities:

No one can stop talking about DiMarco and Murgatroyd’s powerful freestyle performance from Monday night to “The Sound of Silence” by Disturbed. Choreographed by Talia Favia, the stunning piece was meant to highlight the challenges faced by the deaf community, and it literally gave us chills. Carrie Ann Inaba called it the best dance she’s ever seen on the show!

Night two kicked off with a standout energetic openerthink pom poms, tons of confetti and fun flashy tricksthat started on an outside stage and later moved back indoors to the studio.

Last night DiMarco and Murgatroyd also proved that they deserved to take home the big prize with their fabulous tango/cha cha fusion dance to Calvin Harris’ “Summer.” The audience clearly loved it just as much as the judges, who awarded them a perfect 30/30.

Paige VanZant and Mark Ballas, who ended up coming in second, also scored a perfect 30/30 for their mixed jive and salsa piece to “Little Bitty Pretty One” by Thurston Harris on night two. We’ll never tire of watching Ballas kill it on that stageand it happened to be his birthday last night. A perfect score and a second-place win make for pretty good presents!
