"World of Dance" Finale Recap: So, Who's $1 Million Richer Today?
It seems like only yesterday that we were scream-cheering on our sofas for the very first episode of “World of Dance,” amirite? And now the dangerously addictive show has crowned its first winner. (Not its last, either: It’s been renewed for another season. 🙌 )
After a very busy episode in which each Division Champion danced not once, but twice—to a song of their choosing, and to a song of their designated mentor’s choosing—J. Lo, Derek Hough, and Ne-Yo bestowed the show’s million-dollar prize upon…
[…drumroll…]
…LES TWINS!
What earned the fabulous Frenchmen their win? Their first routine was set to “Stole the Show” by Kygo, chosen by Lopez because she believes Les Twins have done just that every episode. (We have a theory that J. Lo cooked up this whole show because she wanted to give these guys a million dollars.) Laurent is still on crutches, but despite the injury the two managed to incorporate a rotating pedestal into the number, which, so many snaps.
Round two saw them grooving to Michael and Janet Jackson’s “Scream,” a choice Ne-Yo said was “dangerous,” given how famous the Jacksons’ own distinctive dancing is. But some clever mirror play elevated their routine, and literally elevated the judges: the duo got a standing O.
Coming in second was pint-sized powerhouse Eva Igo, who may not have taken home the top prize but nevertheless earned the top score of the night for her ferocious performance to Sia’s “Alive,” which involved some creative video projections and fully showcased her signature flexibility.
Third-place finisher Swing Latino went home disappointed, but still brought serious fire—and some death-defying partnering—to a wild number set to DLG’s “Quimbara.”
And that’s a wrap, folks! We’ll miss seeing Jenna Dewan Tatum’s gorg face in our living rooms every Tuesday night. ‘Til next season!
