DWTS Week 6: Spring Break Highs and Lows

April 20, 2015

Last night was Spring Break night on “Dancing with the Stars.” And just like spring temperatures seem to be rising and falling at whim, the competition had a lot of high and low points, too. But let’s skip right to the best parts, shall we?

The highs:

The outfits.
Erin Andrews looked especially stunning (per usual), this time in a one-shoulder white jumpsuit. Then there was Witney Carson’s prom-ready braided hair crown and Patti LaBelle’s joke during her video package: “Patti, will you be wearing a bikini?” “Yes I will be wearing a bikini…PSYCH!” Love her.

I’m gonna need to borrow that number, Erin.

Nastia Liukin and Derek Hough (again).
Though Nastia’s body is starting to tire—after all, she’s been traveling across the country on a weekly basis (to rehearse with New York Spring Spectacular star Hough in NYC)—she didn’t let it show on the dance floor. I’m going to forget about that weird full-body floor spin and put these two on a direct route to the finals.

Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy’s “Bootylicious” jazz routine.
In short: Watch out, Bey. Rumer is, well, just watch her. I was a little shocked the performance scored as low as it did (a 7, Julianne? Yikes). Sure, the choreography wasn’t spectacular, but that’s not Rumer’s fault. She nailed what she was given. Take a look:

#TeamTrouble.
With Allison Holker channeling “Baby One More Time” Britney, Rumer dressed as an end-of-Grease Sandy and Patti, straight up doing her thang, Team Trouble clearly won the team dance competition:

Team Trouble should have scored higher than Team YOLO (imo), who relied way too much on fancy tricks, beach balls and wacky facial expressions. Which brings me to the lows…

The lows:

The dancing Shark Robert Herjavec
and Kym Johnson. How are these two still in it? Last night’s jive was so off musically, I’m beginning to doubt Robert’s counting skills in the board room. Not even the dancing crabs could have saved this performance.

The “dramz” between Noah Galloway and Sharna Burgess.
The pre-performance package revealed a small dispute—or as Bruno called it, a “leetle inceedent”—over the choreography. But then they performed, Noah teared up and the judges got to keep talking about the whole non-issue for waaaay too long. Can we get back to the dancing please?

In the end, the great Patti LaBelle and her partner, Artem Chigvintsev, were sent packing. Are you as disappointed as I am to see her go? Will Willow Shields ever recover from learning about her extra ribs (?!) on national TV? Let us know in the comments and we’ll see you back here next week!
