Misty Copeland Adds "Book Critic" to Her Incredible Resumé (!)
June 11, 2018
Prima ballerina
. Author. Spokesmodel. Actress. Advocate. Designer. Is there anything Misty Copeland can’t do? Now the American Ballet Theatre principal and all-around trailblazer can add “book critic” to her already impressive resumé—for The New York Times, no less.
Using her own experience in the art, Copeland has reviewed two books about dance: Henry Alford’s And Then We Danced: A Voyage Into the Groove and Laura Jacob’s Celestial Bodies: How to Look at Ballet. Both books explore dance’s technique, uses, and traditions from a place of dedication to the art form. And Copeland’s take on them, as an industry insider, is definitely worth a read.
