Meet the Hip Op-eration Crew
Do you ever get a little pang wondering what life will be life when you’re too old and decrepit to do this dancing you love sooooo much?
Well, let it be officially known: You are NEVER too old to dance. The proof? There’s a hip hop group for seniors called the Hip Op-eration Crew.
Just process that awesomeness for a second.
Several of the 37 members in the troupe, which hails from Waiheke Island (off the coast of New Zealand), are in their 90s. They may bling out their sweet outfits, which include hoodies and neon socks, with some unusual accessories—canes, walkers, wheelchairs. But all of them have swag.
And they take their dancing seriously, too. This August, the Hip Op-eration Crew will compete alongside youngsters from all over at the World Hip Hop Dance Championships in Las Vegas.
The Wall Street Journal recently did a video feature on the Hip-Operation Crew, and it is one of the most joyful things I’ve seen in a long time. Watch it—and be reminded of dance’s power to inspire, whatever your age.
