“SYTYCD: The Next Generation” Season 13 Recap: Meet the Top 10!
We have a Top 10!
Last night’s episode of “So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation” didn’t waste much time. In the second day of The Academy, the dancers learned a hip-hop routine from Tabitha and Napoleon D’umo and a contemporary piece by Travis Wall. And we went from 30 dancers to 20, and then to the final 10. Here are our Top 5 moments from the show.
1. Jenna’s dress.
Yeah, Jenna, we’re going to need to borrow that ASAP. Thanks.

2. Team Kathryn’s contemporary showdown
Kathryn’s team was stacked with Tate, Avery and Quinn, and it was heartbreaking knowing all three couldn’t stay—because they should have. All three girls moved with grace, power and maturity, and Travis’ choreography was a natural fit on each of them. So Kathryn had her work cut out for her in narrowing her pick from three dancers to one. (Ultimately, Quinn was cut after the contemporary round, leaving Tate and Avery to duke it out with their solos.)
3. Whenever J.T. is on camera
Is J.T. the best dancer of the bunch? Probably not. But we cannot get enough of this kid and his smile. We have loads of respect for how hard he worked during The Academy. After a tough ballroom round, he showed up for the hip-hop and contemporary portions ready to throw down.

4. Finally getting a little dose of Sophia Lucia
We knew Sophia was auditioning for the show since long before it aired and assumed she’d be a no-brainer for the Top 10. (Spoiler: She actually doesn’t make the Top 10!) Even though she was eventually cut from Team Paul, we loved getting to see her move a bit during this episode.
