The Dirt: Katy Spreadbury

Katy Spreadbury is a hit on the convention circuit. As a faculty member with JUMP she’s a favorite, thanks to her direct teaching methods and picture-perfect ballet demonstrations. And it’s no surprise Spreadbury’s so at home in the industry—she’s been a part of it nearly her whole life.

Spreadbury grew up dancing at Diane Kelley Dance Studio in Worcester, MA, and quickly became a familiar face at competitions and conventions. She won numerous honors, including Dance Masters of America’s “Miss Dance of America,” and American Dance Awards’ “Dancer of the Year” and “Young Choreographer of the Year.” She’s also a former Dance Spirit Future Star Award winner. And Spreadbury’s super smart: She graduated summa cum laude with a BA in English and a concentration in premed studies from Holy Cross College. What did you want to be when you were a teen?
A dancer…always have, always will.

What is your pet peeve?
Negative people. Nobody likes a “Debbie Downer.”

What’s your biggest guilty pleasure?
Candy!! Gummy Bears, Hot Tamales, Sour Patch Kids…I love ’em all!

If you weren’t a dancer, what would you be?
A physical therapist.

One thing you can’t live without:
Music.

Favorite city in the world:
New York! There’s nothing like it.

Who would play you in a movie?
Anne Hathaway.

If you could work with any performer, past or present, who would it be?
Gene Kelly!
