A Look at "city.ballet." Episode 11: Injuries

January 14, 2014

Ouch! Getting injured is the absolute worst fear of most professional dancers. How do dancers in recovery cope? This episode tells all.

FUN FACT:

While landing a jump, soloist Craig Hall ruptured his Achilles tendon onstage. At 34, Craig is considered an older dancer, and he’s not sure he’ll ever get back to the shape he was once in.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK:

“The body was never meant to be in first position. You’re turning the hips in a very awkward way. You’re placing stress on certain joints of your body. And when you multiply that times however many hours we train, you realize the potential for injury is…everywhere.” —Giovanni Villalobos, corps de ballet
