Art With Heart
On April 27th of this year, deadly tornadoes swept through Alabama devastating homes and businesses, leaving thousands of people homeless, and killing 238 people in one day. The news of human loss and suffering that continues, even one month after the disaster, can be overwhelming. But among those stories we also find many of hope and encouragement from those stepping forward to help with the much needed recovery effort.
Since not everyone is able to offer help in person clearing debris or serving displaced families, it is always inspiring to see people creating opportunities to use their talents to help those in need. Consequently, instead of donning hard hats and work gloves, one group dedicated to helping with the relief effort will be outfitted with tutus and patriotic music by John Philips Sousa.
The Huntsville Ballet Company will be presenting a special encore performance of Stars and Stripes, choreographed by Phillip Otto, dedicated to helping the families of those affected by the tornado. The performance will take place at 7 pm on May 31 and June 1 at the Van Braun Center Concert Hall in Huntsville, Alabama. The performance is free to the public where the company members will collect non-perishable food items as well as monetary donations.
