Cross-Continental Dance

August 15, 2010

If you’re on the East Coast or the West, there’s star-studded dancing happening near you this month. In L.A., the fun is outdoors: 20 different dance

companies will perform under the stars at the city’s largest open-air theaters, the Ford Amphitheatre and the Hollywood Bowl. The two events run through October, but this month check out Ford newcomers Invertigo Dance Theatre, Method Contemporary Dance and IN/EX Dance Project, as well as the über-athletic Diavolo company at the Hollywood Bowl.

If you’re an East Coaster, don’t miss out on the Fall for Dance festival in NYC. The annual showcase, happening September 28–October 9, also features 20 national and international troupes. This year’s noteworthy groups include KEIGWIN + COMPANY with Juilliard Dance, Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Miami City Ballet and Gallim Dance. And it’s a steal: On any given night during the festival, you can see up to four different companies for just $10. A jam-packed night of dance is cheaper than a night at the movies!
