"Dancing with the Stars" Recap: Season 10, Elimination 1

March 30, 2010

The elimination episodes on “Dancing with the Stars” are pretty fun! As I mentioned in my previous blog, I’m very late in jumping on the “DWTS” bandwagon. But now that I’ve started watching, I’m totally hooked.

Elimination episodes in general tend to be drawn out and fairly boring. All you really need to watch is the last five minutes to hear who gets the boot from the competition. But “DWTS” does a pretty good job of making most of this hour-long episode entertaining. I could’ve done without the weird Len Goodman preachy stuff (His commandments for the show? So strange.) and didn’t need to see Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough perform their routine again. It was great the first night, absolutely—but that was a mere 24 hours ago. I’m pretty sure everyone remembers it!

What I
about the episode was all the dancing from the pros!
The group number to Cascada’s “Evacuate the Dance Floor” was crazy hot and I have added two men to my dance crush list: Louis Van Amstel and Derek Hough. Those dudes can move! Louis is so professional and dignified. He is always poised and perfect. And Derek Hough, wow! I think if I was a contestant on the show (Ha!), I’d want to partner with Derek. He’s super fun to watch, especially when he breaks it down and lets loose from his ballroom character. As for the girls, Chelsie Hightower is, and always will be, my favorite. She can do no wrong by me. Loved her long, straight hair last night. So, definitely some great dancing from the pros last night!

Admittedly I
love watching Maksim Chmerkovskiy or Cheryl Burke.
Cheryl seems a bit cocky to me (Anyone agree?). When she was waiting with partner Chad Ochocinco to see if they’d be in the bottom, she seemed miserable. What’s up with that? I get that she’s a perfectionist and wants to do well in the competition, but for the stars it should be fun—Cheryl, if you don’t do well, they’ll probably bring you back again next season, don’t worry! I also don’t really get Maks. It’s hard to tell if he and partner Erin Andrews have a rapport going or if he actually doesn’t like her. When they were announced as being safe, he mechanically picked her up, spun her around, put her down and moved on. No smile. Come on, Maks! You’re safe! Woo!

Anyway. The bottom two couples last night were Mark Ballas/Shannen Doherty and Pamela Anderson/Damian Whitewood. Pamela was so cute when they were announced as being the first couple in danger of elimination: Her microphone was on and you heard her say to Damian “What?? We’re in the bottom two?” She was so sad, and it showed her vulnerability.

Ultimately, it was Shannen Doherty and Mark Ballas who became the first couple to leave the competition.

Not happy with the results? Pick up the phone, people! The only way to save your favorite couple is to vote. Until next week…
