Darci Kistler to Retire
February 4, 2009
She’s been with New York City Ballet for nearly 30 years–but it doesn’t seem like long enough! Principal dancer Darci Kistler, the only remaining member of NYCB to have been selected by George Balanchine, announced that she’ll retire during the company’s 2010 season. Although she’ll continue teaching at the School of American Ballet, we’ll miss her sparkling technique and sweet presence onstage. (At least we’ll always have her performance as the Sugar Plum Fairy in the company’s 1993 film version of The Nutcracker to remember her by.) Click here for a link to Kistler’s bio page on the NYCB website, or here to see the New York Times article about her retirement.
