"DWTS" Week 3 Recap: Dripping in Drama
It’s only week three of this season of “Dancing with the Stars,” and things are already starting to get, um, complicated. But tbh we wouldn’t have it any other way. First up in big, shocking, did-that-really-happen news: Maks Chmerkovskiy skipped last night’s performance, and pro Alan Bersten, who was the first eliminated last week, stepped in to partner contestant Vanessa Lachey. Rumors are SWIRLING that Chmerkovskiy stepped out by choice (not due to an injury, which is common on the show), thanks to an ongoing and pretty major feud with partner Lachey. 😬 Yikes. Fingers crossed the two are able to work through whatever happened and return as a stronger pair.
After a very serious and emotional moment of silence to honor the victims of the recent tragedy in Las Vegas, the show kicked off its Guilty Pleasures night routines. Which were exactly the kind of light-hearted fun the country needed yesterday. (Frankie Muniz secretly loves boy bands?! Count us here for that.) Let’s get right to our list of must-watch moments.
Drew Scott and Emma Slater
We’re going to be really honest and just say it straight up: We did not have high hopes for Drew Scott on this show. But after last night’s performance, we’re awarding him our very unofficial Most Improved award. Seriously, Scott has grown so much in just a few short weeks! The couple’s intense Argentine tango celebrated Scott’s love of watching true-crime TV shows (who can’t relate to that) and wowed the judges, earning the duo one of the night’s high scores.
Lindsey Stirling and Mark Ballas
Violinist Lindsey Stirling got real last night about her guilty pleasure: She revealed that currently it’s staying in her pajamas all day eating ice cream, because she literally JUST broke up with her boyfriend. Talk about rough stuff. But her adorably upbeat jive with partner Mark Ballas was probably one of the cutest things we’ve ever seen—and the highest-scoring piece of the night. The goofy bed section! The perfectly glittered PJs! The heartwarming chemistry! It was almost too much sweetness for our hearts to bear.
Nick Lachey and Peta Murgatroyd
Despite the fact that their significant others (Maks and Vanessa) were in the middle of a partner controversy, Nick Lachey and Peta Murgatroyd were in good spirits. The couple danced a super-energetic, ’80s-inspired jazz piece, dedicated to Lachey’s guilty pleasure of romantic comedies (aww!). Decked out in full jazzercise gear, the pair brought it to a song from Love Actually. Weirdly, the judges were not impressed, and gave them a disappointing score. I mean, if a former boy bander can’t steal the show, who can?
At the end of the night, “Pretty Little Liars” star Sasha Pieterse and partner Gleb Savchenko ended up in the bottom. Luckily for them, ABC decided to forgo any eliminations this week. So, check back here next week for our recap—and to find out who was sent home!
