Fall for Dance

September 28, 2008

On Friday night, I was lucky enough to attend one of the final performances at the 2008 Fall for Dance Festival. It turned out to be an awesome night: Twyla Tharp and Helgi Tomasson, artistic director of San Fransisco Ballet, were there accepting their Jerome Robbins awards. Then Helgi took his seat—right across the aisle from me! The amazing show, half modern and half ballet, included:

* Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, Sweet Fields, choreography by Twyla Tharp

* San Francisco Ballet, In the Night, choreography by Jerome Robbins

* Compañia Nacional de Danza, Cor Perdut, choreography by Nacho Duato

* Paul Taylor Dance Company, Esplanade, choreography by Paul Taylor

My favorite was In the Night, which is made up of three duets that tie in a bit of Jerome-Robbins humor. Gorgeous and funny, what more could I ask for?!
