The "Hamilton" Team Is Bringing a Fosse Series to FX (!!!)
OH. MY. FOSSE.
“Fosse/Verdon,” an eight-episode tv series about iconic choreographer Bob Fosse and his longtime muse (and wife) Gwen Verdon, is coming to FX.
But wait, guys. It gets even better:
Based on Sam Wasson’s biography, Fosse, the show will star Sam Rockwell as the great man and Michelle Williams (who was epic in the Broadway revival of Fosse’s Cabaret) as the equally great Verdon. And its lineup of producers includes not only all-around legend Lin-Manuel Miranda and Hamilton director Thomas Kail, but also Hamilton choreographer Andy Blankenbuehler and Fosse and Verdon’s daughter, Nicole Fosse. Which means the dancing is going to be DARN GOOD. (As it darn well should be.)
“My mother and father have one of the greatest love stories ever known,” Nicole Fosse said in a release. “They were extremely complex people with an indestructible bond, loyalty and trust that endured both fantasy and reality. Finally, we have a creative team with the talent and wisdom to tell the story.”
Blankenbuehler, who danced in the Broadway musical Fosse back in the day, had this to say about the project:
The most exciting moments in my dance career were on stage dancing the work of #BobFosse. Couldn’t be more thrille… https://t.co/ElBKAmfIaI— Andy Blankenbuehler (@Andy Blankenbuehler)1532482722.0
And Miranda? He expressed his excitement in typical fashion—with an absolutely perfect gif:

(For the uninitiated, that’d be Verdon and Fosse dancing together in “Who’s Got the Pain” from the 1958 film version of Damn Yankees, a number you should go watch immediately. And then watch again. And again.)
