From Pointe Shoes To Puppets

Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch from “Sesame Street” are beloved, familiar characters to most of us. But did you know that Kermit Love (his real name!), who co-created the famous TV series, also worked with big names in the ballet world? Love created costumes for George Balanchine, designed and built a 28-foot-high marionette for Don Quixote and dressed mice in armor for the The Joffrey Ballet’s The Nutcracker. He also worked with Agnes de Mille and Jerome Robbins . Love was 91. —Ariel
