Hey there

September 19, 2007

Hey all!

This has been a crazy performance-filled week for me. (I have to check it all out in order to report back to you!) Last night I went to the see the revitalized Martha Graham Dance Company here in NYC. The MGDC is so important for anyone who has any interest in modern dance, since she’s been dubbed “the mother” of it all (though there were women dancing modern-type movement before and during that same early period, the 1920s and 30s, in the Workers Dance League and the New Dance Group). Tonight I am headed to see Big Dance Theater, a very cool interdisciplinary company that does super innovative new works that blend dance, vocals and text. And Monday night I attended the Bessies, which are the equivalent to the NYC dance Oscars. Mark Morris, Doug Varone and William Forsythe all won awards. I also chatted briefly with Rasta Thomas on the phone this afternoon, since he’ll be making another little appearance in our December issue…but you’ll have to wait on that one!

Write to me! I’d love to hear what you think of the new issue and our rockin’ website.

Love,

Abby
