One of Your Summer Web Interns

June 4, 2008

Hi Blog Readers!

I’m Krista, one of the summer web interns here at Dance Spirit. This summer I’ll be blogging about dance performances I attend, classes I take, and any other dance-related happenings.

A little about me: I’m originally from Atlanta, GA, where I studied ballet, modern, jazz, and a little bit of tap, and danced with a member company of RDA’s Southeastern Regional Ballet Association. After I graduated high school I moved to Texas to attend the School for Classical and Contemporary Dance at Texas Christian University. As a TCU dance major I was able to perform, choreograph, work with a great faculty, and take class from guest artists, including Alonzo King, artistic director of LINES Ballet! TCU helped me move out of my mostly ballet comfort zone, and lately I’ve been focused more on modern and contemporary styles and also musical theater. But don’t worry, I still take ballet class regularly. There’s nothing better for my strength!

I just graduated with a BFA in Ballet and Modern Dance, but I have one more semester to finish up a second degree (I know, I’m a hopeless overachiever), a BA in Writing. This internship uses my experience from both of my majors, and involves two of my favorite things: words and dance! Web interns help with the online portions of Dance Spirit and some of the other magazines (Dance Magazine, Dance Teacher, and Pointe), like the e-newsletters, the back issue pages, etc. We also moderate the forums… so be good on the message boards!

But, when I’m not in the office, I’ll be taking class all over (I’ve already hit Dance New Amsterdam, Steps (where I saw 2007’s SYTYCD winner, Sabra!), Broadway Dance Center, and New Dance Group for classes) and going to performances (Last week I saw Curtains, A Chorus Line, The SAB end-of-year workshop, and New York City Ballet. Tonight I’m seeing Alvin Ailey!). I’ll keep you posted!
