SYTYCD Recap: Top 6

July 29, 2009

Last night was kind of a snooze. Like Lil C, we had high expectations from these uber talented dancers. The pairing were great. So what went wrong? Well, there were some highs. Read on to hear our reactions.

Top 3 Guys

Evan really stepped up the level that Ade and Brandon dance at. We thought he was much quirkier than usual. Ade and Brandon’s performances were powerful.

Verdict: Booked on the hot tamale train.

Top 3 Girls

This routine reminded us of our “Hip-Hop Heroes” May/June fashion feature. Everyone danced well, but it seemed that Kayla was featured. We thought last night was her best night of the season.

Verdict: Taking a later train.

Ade and
Jeanine
(samba)

She was workin’ it (her facial expressions are always amazing!), but he seemed stiff. The judges were not fans.

Verdict: Missed the train.

Ade and
Jeanine
(hip hop)

Nappytabs are so silly! Those boxes with the faces on them made us laugh. Ade rocked this routine. Agree with the judges that he got down and more into it. Jeanine’s moves were more grimy than usual.

Verdict: Booked on the hot tamale train.

Evan and Melissa (Broadway)

Evan was amazing! He finally got a chance to show off his style. Melissa, again, adapted to another style besides ballet. There was great energy between the pair (I sound like Nigel!).

Verdict: Taking a later train.

Evan and Melissa (quickstep)

Evan was strong throughout the entire episode, and he kept it up in this routine. Melissa glows when she’s on stage.

Verdict: Taking a later train.

Brandon and
Kayla
(contemporary)

This was a very technical and mature routine, which they pulled off. Kayla showed great emotion. We didn’t see as much of it from Brandon, but his tour jeté was amazing!

Verdict: Booked on the hot tamale train.

Brandon and
Kayla
(disco)

It was very groovy. This is quite a pair. Nigel got out of his chair and screamed. Will these two be up against each other in the finale?

Verdict: Booked on the hot tamale train.
