The Dirt: Seth Stewart

August 15, 2010

Go see In the Heights on Broadway and try to take your eyes off Seth Stewart, who originated the role of Graffiti Pete. As the first dancer onstage,

Stewart’s presence is magnetic. His movement is sharp and precise; his energy is contagious. Star quality? This guy’s got it.

Stewart has performed with Madonna, Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey, to name a few, thanks in part to his range of dance training. He attended the Ailey/Fordham BFA program, trained with The Joffrey Ballet and still takes class at Broadway Dance Center in NYC. Now, he’s sharing his talent in Hoboken, NJ, where he just opened Oh Yeah! Dance Studio. It’s open to the public, so go take a class and learn from this master of the Broadway and commercial worlds!

What did you want to be when you were a teen?
I wanted to be a famous rockstar! Or play football for the New York Giants! (yeah it’s true)

If you weren’t a dancer, what would you be?

I would most definitely be a veterinarian for wild animals in Africa.

If you could work with any performer, past or present, who would it be?
Bob Fosse, Ben Vereen, Sammy Davis Jr, MJ (of course) James Brown, and a lot more. I have a lot of inspirations!

Who would play you in a movie?
Hmmm…I can’t put my finger on the correct answer, so I’ll just go with Johnny Depp…right?

Who is your dance crush?
Can’t say…but I’m sure she knows.
