Tyce Talks TV

Katie Holmes may have lit up the Broadway stage in Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, but it won’t take a long wait in the TKTS line to see the star in her next theatrical turn. On October 21, tune in to the ABC series Eli Stone. Katie will guest star—and sing and dance with a chorus of 10 male dancers!

Tyce Diorio, who has hit mainstream fame as a judge and choreographer on “So You Think You Can Dance,” is the wizard behind the curtain. Not only did he create Katie’s razzle-dazzle moves, but he’s also been her trainer and personal dance coach for more than a year!

“She has a good sense of rhythm,” says Tyce of his famous student. “She can double and triple pirouette and she jumps. We do some modern, adagio and ballet at the barre.”

In the episode, Katie plays a nonprofit attorney. Her song-and-dance routine, described by Tyce as “sultry theater jazz,” happens when protagonist Eli Stone’s brain tumor produces a vision that will guide his destiny—and possibly everyone else’s.

In additional Tyce news, other projects include choreographing an Orbitz commercial as well as creating the moves for a new production of Oklahoma! that opened in September at the Fulton Theatre in Pennsylvania. Tyce, who performed in Tony Award–winning Broadway productions of Fosse and Chicago, says he’s thrilled to be choreographing a musical. “This is my ticket to Broadway!” he says.

We’ve got news for him: While Katie’s new triple-threat status definitely merits a few bravos, Tyce on the Great White Way would really be something to cheer about. —Kristin Lewis
