We're Obsessed with This TEDx Talk on Dance Diplomacy

January 5, 2019

Consider this clip your pre-Monday Motivation.

Y’all already know that dance can—and often does—change the world. For a super-powerful reminder of that truth, look no further than the work of Movement Exchange, a nonprofit that brings together social justice and dance through a strong network of college chapters, international dance exchanges, and year-round programming in disadvantaged communities.

Movement Exchange’s Co-Executive Director Adele Switzer recently got a chance to spotlight the impact of that incredible work at TEDx Towson University. In the 15-minute talk, she speaks eloquently about how we as dancers can change people’s lives by making dance education more accessible and by connecting deeply with movement artists across the globe. Through fascinating personal stories, Switzer shares her journey with dance and with Movement Exchange, highlighting how a few chance encounters guided her towards a network of “dance diplomats”—artists dedicated to making dance a tool to enact positive social change.

Smart dancers speaking beautifully about their work and why it matters = the perfect antidote to the Sunday Scaries. We’ll be watching this on repeat at least until Miko Fogarty gives her own TEDx talk in March.
