Wrapping up a busy year

February 2, 2009

Hey Everyone,

I’m sorry it’s been so long since I’ve written — so much has been going on! In the last month I’ve had two performances and two auditions plus all the normal school work, and I’ve been sending out resumes for jobs (both writing positions and dance teaching/choreography positions). I don’t think I’ve been this busy since high school when I was dancing at my studio, taking too many AP classes, and applying for colleges. I’m sure a lot of you know what I mean when I say that I can’t wait until winter break!

I have been accepted into a small project-based company here in Fort Worth, and I’ll start dancing with them in January. They produce dance concerts to showcase their dancers and choreography, but they also perform in schools and for community events. I would tell you the name of the company, but they’re undergoing a name change right now, so stay tuned! I’m just excited about being able to dance and perform and get paid. And get class for free!

I’m also learning that having success in the dance world often means making opportunities for yourself. I love choreography, but it’s not often that you see want ads for choreographers, and I know I just need to get some of my work out there for people to see. So I’ll also be spending the next couple of weeks preparing video submissions for some local dance festivals where I hope to show my work. I’m also collecting clips of my choreography to send to dance studios, high school dance and theater programs, and dance companies in the area. It’s a lot of work, but I think if I persevere I can get some good work out of it.

I hope all of you are surviving the ends of your semesters. Take your Thanksgiving break to rest and re-focus so the rest of 2008 is amazing!
