Dancing, Dancing, Dancing…

September 24, 2007

Last week, Abby blogged about all of the great performances she’s seen recently, but I actually haven’t been to many shows in the last few weeks. Why, you ask? Because I’ve been spending my nights and weekends rehearsing for a couple of upcoming shows of my own! I have a performance coming up this weekend, and since I will be dancing every night this week, with our tech, dress rehearsal and then the actual shows, it’s kind of the biggest thing on my mind at the moment. So I figured I’d share it with you all!

This Saturday and Sunday, I’m performing with a brand-new dance company, Alden Moves Dance Theater, directed by one of my good friends from college, Alden LaPaglia. In addition to the coolness of being in on a new project from the ground up, I’m getting to present a solo of my own choreography–the first time I’ve shown my choreography in NYC! I’m really excited, but also pretty nervous about having my choreography in front of an audience for the first time since college. Next week, I’ll let you know how the show went!
It’s kind of crazy trying to balance working at Dance Spirit with performing (I have shows coming up in October and December, in addition to the one this weekend!), but I love dancing way too much to give it up just yet! And I think keeping my passion for movement alive helps me stay inspired and excited about bringing the latest news from around the dance world to you guys, our fabulous readers, each month. Being out there in class and onstage reminds me why I do what I do for a living–you all share my love of the art of dance and I want to help you become the best dancers you can be!
Okay, to keep from getting too cheesy, I’ll sign off here…
you keep dancing, and I will too!
lots of love,
KatÂ
